This certificate prepares students for entry-level positions in human resource management. Students will gain an understanding of the key functions and practices of human resource professionals including: recruitment, selection, training, wage and salary administration, benefits, legal obligations, and regulations. The program prepares students for the aPHR (Associate Professional in Human Resources) certification from the HR Certification Institute (HRCI)

Students who complete the Human Resource Management certificate will be able to:  

  • create acquisition and retention strategies as well as formulate assessments of activities in these areas. 
  • understand and address the varied ethical and legal issues associated with HR practices, including anti-discrimination laws, recruiting practices, privacy rights, documentation and contemporary developments in employment law. 
  • analyze how group and individual behaviors are influenced in an organizational setting. 
  • evaluate an organization’s work environment challenges, including diversity and change, in order to help employees navigate a path through the organizational environment. 
  • explore pathways and demonstrate preparedness for educational and career development in the student’s field of study.
