Program Requirements
The Human Services program prepares you for entry into the helping professions. You will gain the foundational knowledge and skills needed to work in mental health centers, home health and respite organizations, substance abuse programs, family crisis centers, community development agencies, and other human service programs. Many participants in this program choose to continue their education at the baccalaureate level and beyond.

Program Outcomes
Graduates of the Human Services program will be able to:
- describe methods social scientists use to research, analyze, interpret, and report data in the field of human services;
- demonstrate effective interpersonal communication techniques with diverse populations;
- identify client needs, locate resources, and support individuals as appropriate;
- exhibit professional conduct in a human services organization including legal and ethical responsibilities, roles, and boundaries;
- demonstrate academic skills required of all CCV graduates including competency in writing, information literacy, oral communication, and quantitative reasoning; and
- explore pathways for educational and career development in the student’s field of study.
The Human Services program is great for you if:
- you are interested in learning effective interpersonal communication techniques with diverse populations;
- you are willing to reflect on your experiences and assess the impact of those experiences in working with others;
- you care about making a difference for others and serving the community where you live;
- you want to gain experience, both practical and theoretical, in the area of social services; and
- you are interested in an entry level position in social services.
Key Information and advice for students in the Human Services program:
- Students may complete this program and transfer into a bachelor’s degree program in Social Work or Human Services.
- Many students choose to complete the Substance Abuse Services certificate in conjunction with the Human Services degree to broaden their skill set and employment options.
- The required field experience ( ) gives students practical experience in the workplace and can be a stepping-stone to employment and/or provide students with a valuable employment reference.

The Vermont State Colleges System’s (VSCS) Direct Admissions program gives CCV students guaranteed transfer admission to Castleton University, Northern Vermont University, or Vermont Tech. Direct Admissions students follow course maps that ensure classes taken apply to both their bachelor and CCV associate degree, saving them time and money.
