Program Outcomes
Students who complete the Substance Abuse Services certificate will be able to:
- understand the range of services that substance abuse professionals provide and identify theories and models of practice in relation to prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery;
- describe chemical dependency and its consequences for individual, family and social systems, and co-occurring issues such as mental health, poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, and delinquency;
- practice effective observation, interpersonal communication and group facilitation techniques, and demonstrate appropriate ethical practices when working with diverse clients;
- complete Vermont state examination for Apprentice Addiction Professional (AAP) certification with a passing score; and
- explore pathways for educational and career development in student’s field of study.
