Funeral Director +



This certificate meets the education requirements for an alternative route to Funeral Director licensure through the Vermont Office of Professional Regulation. In addition to education requirements, those pursuing Funeral Director licensure are required to complete an apprenticeship, continuing professional education hours, and a licensure exam. Apprenticeship, continuing education hours, and licensure exam must be arranged independently and are not part of the CCV Funeral Director certificate. Through an articulation agreement with Cape Cod Community College (CCCC), students who complete the CCV Funeral Director Certificate and met (CCCC) requirements are guaranteed admission to their Embalming Certificate and/or Funeral Service A.S. degree program.

Courses taken in this certificate can be applied to the Business (A.S.) +  or Professional Studies (A.S.) +  program.

Program Outcomes


Students who complete the Funeral Director certificate will be able to:

  • describe the diverse ways in which death and loss can affect survivors;
  • describe the beliefs, rituals, and practices surrounding death expressed by a variety of cultures and religions;
  • prepare, organize, and communicate ideas, effectively employing appropriate tone, language, and delivery style for the intended audience;
  • demonstrate foundational legal and financial knowledge and skills necessary for general business operation; and
  • meet the education requirements for Vermont Office of Professional Regulation Funeral Director licensure.
